Frequently Asked Questions
What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a key part of Chinese Medicine — a holistic approach to wellness that’s been practiced for thousands of years.
It works by gently stimulating specific points on the body to restore balance, improve circulation, and support your body’s natural ability to heal itself.
At Indigo, we see acupuncture as more than symptom relief — it’s about helping your whole system come back into alignment so you can feel and function your best.
How does it work?
Think of acupuncture as a way to remind your body how to heal.
By using ultra-fine needles at specific points, we’re activating your nervous system, improving energy flow (or “Qi”), and encouraging natural processes like tissue repair, hormone balance, and stress regulation.
In simple terms — acupuncture helps your body do what it was designed to do: restore balance and thrive.
What is my first treatment like?
Your first visit is all about you.
We’ll start with a thorough conversation about your health, lifestyle, and goals. Then I’ll create a personalized treatment plan designed just for your body’s needs.
Your actual acupuncture session will be calm and restorative — most patients say it feels like taking a deep nap or meditation. You’ll leave feeling grounded, relaxed, and often noticeably lighter.
What are treatments like going forward?
Follow-up sessions build on your first one.
Each visit, we’ll check in on how you’re feeling and make small adjustments as your body shifts and heals.
Most people notice deeper, longer-lasting results with consistent sessions — it’s like training your body to stay balanced and resilient.
How many treatments will it take?
Everyone’s healing timeline is unique.
Some people feel results after just one or two sessions, while others may need a series to address deeper, chronic imbalances.
After your first visit, we’ll go over a clear, customized plan so you’ll know exactly what to expect.
Does it hurt?
Not really — most people are surprised by how gentle acupuncture feels!
The needles are very fine — about the width of a human hair — and sensations can range from nothing at all to a light tingling or warmth.
Once the needles are placed, most patients feel deeply relaxed — some even fall asleep.
Do you accept insurance?
Indigo does not currently bill insurance directly, but we’re happy to provide a superbill that you can submit to your provider for potential reimbursement.
Many health savings or flexible spending accounts (HSA/FSA) can also be used for acupuncture services.
Before & After
Acupuncture Treatments
Before Your Appointment
To help you get the most out of your session, here are a few quick notes before you arrive:
-
Insurance:
If you plan to submit your visit to insurance, please let us know at or before your first appointment. -
Cell Phones:
Please turn your phone off or silence it before your session — this is your time to fully unplug and settle in. -
Jewelry:
Remove bracelets, earrings, and watches before treatment. -
Clothing:
Loose, comfortable clothing is best. If you’re not able to, no worries — we can easily accommodate you.

After Your Appointment
Acupuncture continues to work even after you leave the clinic — so give your body space to integrate and rebalance.
A few gentle reminders:
-
Hydrate:
Drink plenty of water to support circulation and help your body process any energetic or physical shifts. -
Rest & Replenish:
Take it easy if you can. Give yourself permission to slow down, relax, and let the effects of your session unfold. -
Notice Changes:
You may feel lighter, calmer, or more balanced right away — or notice gradual improvements over the next few days.
Pay attention to how your body feels and jot down any changes to share at your next visit. -
Avoid Overdoing It:
Try not to schedule anything overly intense (workouts, long travel, heavy meals) immediately after treatment — your body’s in healing mode.
